Who we are

The fertilizer stakeholder forum is AGRA funded network of fertilizer development/ fertilizer improvement partners drawn from the fertilizer companies, government agricultural input departments, research institutions and policy makers. Agricultural stakeholders agree that unavailability of right fertilizers in the African markets coupled with in adequate fertilizer use knowledge are key impediments to agricultural growth in Africa. To address some of these challenges new fertilizer manufacture and blending plants have emerged in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Malawi, Ethiopia and Mozambique through financial support from various donors, private entities and national government. Older companies are also improving on their formulation, to develop better suited fertilizers. Fertilizer development is knowledge and skill intensive undertaking and often fertilizer manufacturers/blenders lack sufficient resources and knowledge to develop robust products. The fertilizer stakeholder forum aims at mobilizing data, knowledge products and skills to support the fertilizer companies to develop robust fertilizer products for various crops and agroecologies in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Malawi, Ethiopia and Mozambique.

Technical expertise is drawn from various institutions including the International Plant Nutrition Institute (IPNI), International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC), African Fertilizer and Agribusiness Partnership (AFAP) and Tanzania Fertilizer Regulatory Authority (TFRA) among other national, regional and international institutions.
